Day 2 of Baby Week: Dr. Bronner’s Baby

September 30, 2010

It goes without saying, you really can’t mention Naturals or Organics without thinking of Dr. Bronner’s products. Its synonymous with nature, Dr. Bronner’s is kind of a big deal. His time-honored simplicity and Old-world quality can be traced back to the family’s German-Jewish soapmaking tradition.

In 1929, he brought his formulas for high quality liquid and bar soaps to America, starting Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps in its current form in 1948. 2008 marked both the 60th anniversary of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, as well as their family’s first soapmakings. So it goes without saying, this is a tried and true company. History aside, these are amazing products and an amazing company.  There are great soaps/washes that they make that are great for baby. But while they are called Baby Mild and Baby Sensitive, they are not just for baby. They are great for everyone especially adults with sensitive. A lot of times when I receive bars and washes, that are suitable for face use as well, I like to test them out to see if they would make good face cleansing products for sensitive skin adults. All 3 performed pretty decently as such. One of firsts in the company, this Unscented Baby Pure Castile Soap contains no fragrance, so it is great for babies, and people who have allergies or sensitive skin.  All oils and essential oils are certified organic to the National Organic Standards Program. Packaged in 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles. The thing about castile soaps of you’ve never used one before is they are the ultimate in multi-tasking when it comes to soap. Nothing tops a good castile. Its a powerhouse cleaner that is very low sudsing. You there’s a reason its called 18-in-one, plus one. Run out of dishsoap? This will clean a sink full of bottles and whatever else you need washing. Want to get those babies clothes super clean? Its ridiculous how much less you need versus regular detergents and such. All  the bottles have suggestions for usage on them, and the website does as well. It comes in a nice assortment of sizes 2oz, 4oz, 8oz, 16oz, 32oz, and 1 gallon. I’ve used the Lavender as my Laundry Detergent and it is FANTASTIC!!

This hefty, mild, Organic unscented bar, like all Dr. Bronner’s bars, last forever I swear. All oils and essential oils are certified organic to the National Organic Standards Program. Wrapped in 10% hemp-flax / 90% post-consumer recycled paper from Living Tree Paper Co. It lathers nice and cleans my babies up, without drying the skin. It is also a really good for adults with sensitive skin. Because it is a castile soap just in bar form, it multi-tasks just like the liquid version does. You can use it use it to scrubs stains out before it goes into the washer. The way I like to use it is, at the sink. Its a great bar for kids to wash their hands with. With no worries about chemicals and anti-bacterial garbage. Just in case you missed the memo, soap and water is just as highly effective as anti-bacterial cleaners, just without the chemicals.  It comes in a 5 ounce bar that lasts quite a while.Ahh, my favorite of them all. Not sure if its the smell or how this one in particular just suits me right. But I love this one. This lovely baby hand soap with Shikakai (Shee-kah-kai), smells divine. Organic Shikakai comes from the seed pods of the small South Asian tree Acadia Concinna and has been used for millennia in India as a gentle conditioning cleanser for both skin and hair. They extract the Shikakai in organic sugar and grape juice and combine with Dr. Bronner’s unsurpassed castile soap base for rich emollient lather and moisturizing afterfeel. Again. Dr. Bronner’s is the king when it comes to multi-tasking soaps. Hair, Hands, Bodies, Babies, the list goes on. This smells super good. I’ve used this as well as the original castile to give my dogs baths and it works way better then any dog shampoo. This comes in 12 and 24 ounce pump bottles.

I love these soaps and I love this company. Dr.Bronner’s  is one of the VERY few companies that is transparent. They have nothing to hide. They put everything right out in the open. I can grab anything of their products and I never have to re-check, or worry about, “Is there formula different, did they add chemicals etc.?” Just the basics, plain, simple, toxic free cleaning.

These products are becoming more and more available which is great. You can usually find if nothing else, the original castile liquid pretty much everywhere. If you don’t have any luck you can order online, at Dr. Bronner’s. Or call them, I’m sure they’d be happy to help you locate a store near you.

Hugs & Lip Gloss,
